Helping Hands Committee

The Helping Hands committee at General Distributors is dedicated to providing one-time emergency assistance to people in the local community.  Our employees donate money from each pay check.  General Distributors' owners then match each donation dollar for dollar.  Volunteer members of the Helping Hands committee meet once a month or as often as needed.  They facilitate how the money will be spent and investigate each application.  They ensure that 100% of the money spent goes back into the community and do not grant assistance to organizations with administrative fees.  The committee members must agree by majority vote and each member must sign off on the request before funds are distributed.  The Helping Hands Committee also does not directly give cash, but instead will shop for items needed or will pay bills directly for the applicant.

We help out with the following projects every year, in addition to personal requests:

  • Portland Rescue Mission (Donating Blankets/Coats for the Homeless)
  • Clackamas Service Center (Buying socks/Blankets for the Homeless)
  • Willamette Falls Hospital Adopt A Family
  • Willamette Falls Hospital Adopt A Senior
  • Parrott Creek Ranch Residential Program
  • Parrott Creek Ranch Foster Child Transition into Independent Living
  • Clackamas County Human Services – “The Giving Tree”
  • Sunshine Division Food and Clothing Barrels
  • Portland Winterhawk’s Teddy Bear Toss
